SS Edmund Fitzgerald Blueprint Shirt
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down. Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee. The SS Edmund Fitzgerald was a large cargo ship that sank in Lake Superior on November 10, 1975. The ship was carrying taconite iron ore from mines near Duluth, Minnesota, to steel mills near Detroit, Michigan, when it encountered a severe storm with high winds and waves up to 35 feet (10.7 meters) in height. The ship was lost with all 29 crew members aboard, and the cause of the sinking remains uncertain. Many theories have been put forth over the years, including structural failure due to the storm’s intense waves, flooding caused by open hatches, and cargo shifting, among others.
