Gimbels Shirt

Elf is a popular Christmas movie released in 2003, directed by Jon Favreau and starring Will Ferrell as Buddy, a human raised by elves at the North Pole. One of the key settings in the film is Gimbels, a fictional department store in New York City, where Buddy gets a job as an employee. In real life, Gimbels was an actual department store chain that once operated in the U.S., particularly in New York, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh, before closing in the 1980s. The movie pays homage to this famous retailer by featuring it as part of Buddy’s journey in the big city, although the scenes set in “Gimbels” were actually filmed at the 34th Street Macy’s in Manhattan.
